On Sunday we made our first trip of the outdoor season to Weston Lawns, niether of the horses had competed on their wonderfull surfaces before, it's a fantastic venue with excellent facilities and attracts excellent entries in each class. Storm Hill Sun Bean, set a blistering pace in the first class of the day, the 105 open - Single phase, this format really suits Bean and her honesty and agility shone through in an efficient and neat jump off, making all of the turns with ease. Verity left the ring having taken the lead, and they lead for the majority of the class only to have three of the last six combinations shave the smallest margins from her time. Finishing in 4th place was no disgrace, in a very strong field, with less than 0.25 of a second covering the top 5! Verity and Bean then took part in the newcomers class with bean continuing to jump well off the excellent surface, a small error on Verity's behalf led to a poor shot into a tricky combination midway through the course which left them on 4 faults. Verity was disgusted with herself as the horse had jumped so well. Having jumped 5 Bristich novice double clears on the bounce, Harrison III made the step up to the Discovery class later in the day. Harry reacted as planned to the slightly larger course, jumping the first round with ease. An unlucky and late falling pole led to 4 faults in the jump off at the second element of a double of uprights which ended Harry's run of double clears. On reflection a rather large jump in to the double may have made the distance a little short. Having arrived at 9am, we left at 5pm, after a long and pleasing day, both horses having jumped well at their first visit to such an imposing venue. We returned home and worked the youngsters. Next weekend we are hoping to make our first trip to Kingswood since the installation of their new surface, lets hope that we don't get the usual 'Bank Holiday' Weather!
